You have probably heard of 'block of the month' patchwork quilt projects. We have block of the month classes in our shop, which are always very popular. For those who cannot attend a class but would like the opportunity to sit down on a regular basis and produce a patchwork block, Darren thought it would be a good idea to produce a block of the month calendar: useful, instructive and an ideal gift!
Each calendar comprises 28, spiralbound A4 pages printed double sided on heavyweight paper. They open to A3 format for each month with an A4 calendar page together with an A4 quilt block instructions sheet.
Each instruction sheet is clearly illustrated in colour with cutting and piecing instructions to create a 12 inch (30cm) patchwork quilt block. Some are traditional blocks, others have been created by Darren for Quiltessential. At the end of each calendar, there are instructions explaining how to convert the 12 completed blocks into an 81 x 63 inch (210 x 160cm) patchwork quilt, as indicated by the illustration on the calendar front cover (you can use any colour fabrics you like!).
The back cover of the calendar shows a sample of the style of instructions provided together with the fabric quantities required to complete the patchwork quilt.
Please note that the fabric quantities differ slightly on each calendar.
There are 3 calendars currently available, each with 12 different blocks. Calendar 1 has slightly easier blocks than the other 2 calendars.
To make the blocks you will require a rudimentary knowledge of patchwork and must be able to accurately cut the fabric using rotary cutting equipment. All instructions require you to machine sew an accurate quarter inch seam so you will require a sewing machine capable of doing this. To complete the quilt you will also require a walking foot for your sewing machine.
